Volunteers in Sighet, Romania

Lega Missionaria Studenti and Comunità di Vita Cristiana Italia have walked alongside this project for years: summer and winter camps in the family homes, time with the children, formation, and service.

The volunteering mission in Sighet

The bond with Sighet grew camp after camp. Groups of students and young adults from Lega Missionaria Studenti and Comunità di Vita Cristiana travel to Romania several times a year — an experience of service, shared life, and prayer in the Ignatian tradition.

On site, volunteers step into the daily rhythm of the family homes. They play with the children, study with the older kids, take part in maintenance work, and help prepare meals. This is not ‘solidarity tourism’: each volunteer is prepared before leaving and accompanied during and after the camp.

The volunteers’ presence supports the educators and the local families, especially during the most demanding periods of the year. It is also a path of growth for those who leave: they come back with a different understanding of what a home, a bond, and time given to others can mean.

Who is involved

Lega Missionaria Studenti (LMS) — Jesuit-inspired youth network, historically tied to international volunteering.
Comunità di Vita Cristiana — CVX Italia — lay community in the Ignatian tradition, partnering with LMS on camps and formation.
Progetto Quadrifoglio Onlus — the association coordinating the camps in Sighet and the relationship with the family homes.
